"Camden Boatyard"
9"x12", Oil on canvas
Gallery Price: $675

I began painting twenty-five years ago --- a late start compared to most artists.  My original career choice was interior design, and in design school in Chicago I learned the basics of design, color and perspective.  But my most important “class” was a trip to the Art Institute, where I discovered the French Impressionists.  It was love at first sight.

Not having the benefit of a formal fine art education, I began the journey of educating myself by studying great art in museums, galleries and books.  In a way, you could say I have been “taught” by Monet, Sargent, Chase … and yes, Richard Schmid, although I have never met him!

My goal has always been to be professional in every aspect of my art, including using quality materials, creating only original work and developing my own style.  I paint every painting with the somewhat lofty hope that it will bring viewers pleasure and lift their spirits for generations to come.

After concentrating on landscapes for years, I have recently focused on two of my favorite subjects:  dogs and boats.  I discovered that boats are a fascinating subject which often allows me to paint another favorite topic – water.  Boats have an endless supply of details which tell a story of how the boat is used.  I especially love colorful old wooden fishing boats.  A trip to Maine provided a wealth of boat material, including “Camden Boatyard.”

My work has been included in Gilcrease Museum’s annual “American Art in Miniature” since 1999.  I am represented by the Howell Gallery, Oklahoma City.
