Painting is a way to communicate without using words. Each painting is a story, perhaps about the change of seasons, an anecdote about an animal or the timeless history of the Grand Canyon. Maybe it is a legend about a romantic vista or a tale about the warmth turning cold as the red evening light fades from a snow-covered mountain. As the artist, it is my job to capture the viewer�s attention by the contrasts in the painting, lead the eyes across the composition, direct them to the center of interest, and guide them gently into seeing the story that I saw, the inspiration that led me to choose that particular scene as my subject matter. If the viewer reads and comprehends my story, then I have succeeded in my artistic task.
