This is one of my favorite spots along the river. I loved how the light was bouncing around the rocks and on the water.

Growing up and spending most of her life in the St. Croix River Valley of Minnesota, Joni developed a keen eye for the natural world around us and the beauty it possesses. Be it a vast landscape, an acute subject, or an intimate observation, Joni's artwork reflects not only the picturesque details, but a uniquely serene mood as well.

"I am compelled to observe and record the current world around us and strive to create paintings that reflect the essence of a scene, subject and/or experience. Painting from life provides an avenue for me to study artistic elements in a way that cannot be duplicated in any other setting.  The challenges of changing light conditions, weather and event insects inspire me to make marks that are truthful and heartfelt. Those painting exercises in turn have a significant impact on my studio works. Thank you for allowing me to share these experiences with you through my paintings." - Joni
