Kathleen Kalinowski’s representational paintings have a vibrant impressionistic style. Her love of the landscape started as a child. She grew up drawing and observing the land, filling sketchbooks and taking drawing classes from area artists. Her art studies continued in college and in workshops with a number of accomplished artists. A dedicated plein air and studio painter, she has been working as a professional fine artist for the past twenty years using oil and pastel as her mediums. She is represented by five galleries in Michigan and is starting to immerge on the national level. Kathleen’s paintings have been accepted in many regional and national shows and has twice been accepted in prestigious Salon International at the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art, the Degas Pastel Society National Exhibition, several Pastel Society of America Exhibits and recently won the Gold Medal in the Great Lakes Pastel Society Exhibit at the Ella Sharpe Museum and given the PSA Award during a juried exhibit at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Kathleen’s work and story has been featured in International Artists Magazine and featured several times in the Art Showcase Magazine and most recently, the Artisan’s Well Magazine.  She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a Charter Member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, Associate member of the Oil Painters of America and a member of the Plein Air Artists of West Michigan.

“Art is my passion, it is who I am. Whether working on-site or in my studio, the pattern of light and shadow is the first thing that draws me to a subject. My intent is to capture the sense of the place, the relationship of elements, quality of light, atmosphere, and color harmonies to create a visual poetry that I seek to express in my work. My hope is that the viewer will be left with a feeling of pleasure and another understanding of how beautiful our world can be.”
