Born in Chicago, IL, Mark Rittorno was raised in McHenry, Illinois, a few miles from the Wisconsin border. He spent 23 years in the hospitality business.

In 2003, Mark contacted the Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA) and was instrumental in relocating the group's annual exhibition and sale to Caesar's Lake Tahoe for the 2004-05 shows. In July 2005, Mark made the transition to paint fulltime, and relocated from Lake Tahoe, NV to Fort Collins, CO with his wife Donna.

In 2007 Mark purchased a studio in Loveland, CO. He often spends weeks on the road painting locations from the Rocky Mountains to the west coast. 

Since 2003, Mark has studied with well-known artists Skip Whitcomb, John Budicin, George Strickland, Kevin Macpherson, Joe Paquet, Kenn Backhaus, Ray Roberts and Kim English. 

Mark has recently accepted the position of President for the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters.
