Thelma VanSchoiack

Thelma VanSchoiack was born and raised near the Flint Hills in southeastern Kansas. She’s spent most of her life pursuing the wonderful journey of an artist, though her art training didn’t begin until she hit her fifties.

Winning Best of Show in her first exhibition in 1996 inspired Thelma to continue learning, competing, and absorbing everything possible to improve her oil painting skills. She was rewarded in the Spring of 2011 with a First Place Award by the Kansas Art Guild for her painting, Conejos River Solitude. All told, since 1991, Thelma has received over 22 paintings awards from organizations such as the Kansas Art Guild and the Wichita Oil Painting Society.

Basically a self-taught artist with a strong work ethnic and deep desire to learn, Thelma has studied with accomplished artists in Colorado, Kansas, and New Mexico. She has been an active member of the Kansas Art Guild since 2007.
